18th & 19th July 2000 (Dr Gerry Bates) ANU Canberra This seminar will examine a holistic view of natural resource management. It will explore the extent to which the principles of ecologically sustainable development guide the management of natural resources, both for exploitation and preservation. The course goes on to consider how government policy initiatives shape legal responses and whether integrated environmental management of resources is being recognised and progressed through existing legal and policy responses. Finally, the range of management tools employed in natural resource legislation (such as management plans, licensing, and agreements), and their legal significance, will be reviewed together with the legal obligations for environment protection that are part of natural resource decision-making.
