Abstract: This site provides regional data for Central America as well as hyperlinks to data for specific countries. In 1997, Central American countries collectively consumed 0.60 quadrillion British thermal units (Btu) of energy (0.2% of the world's total) and generated 7.1 million metric tons of energy-related carbon emissions (0.1% of the world's total). Oil is the dominant fuel in Central America, accounting for 70% of 1997total energy consumption in the region, followed by hydroelectricity (24%), other renewables (6.0%), and coal (0.2%). As of 1997, there was no natural gas or nuclear consumption in Central America, and the region collectively accounted for 0.3% of the world's oil consumption.
